Oreo truffles are a delicious and easy treat to make for any occasion with this simple oreo truffle recipe! You can dress them up in fun sprinkles and sugars to make them holiday or occasion-specific!
Oreo truffles are one of my favorite desserts to make because they look so fancy and time-consuming and they are, in fact, really easy to make. The kids have a fun time dipping the truffle balls into the melted chocolate and adding the sprinkles!

- Oreos – I used regular stuffed oreos and you keep the cream filling in the oreos when you crush them into fine crumbs
- Cream Cheese – it s best to let it come to room temperature. This makes mixing eaiser.
- White chocoalte – you can use whatever you have on hand. I love Ghirardelli melting wafers but you can use candy melts, white chocolate chips or almond bark as well.
- Sprinkles – Decorate with St. Patrick’s Day sprinkles, green sprinkles, non-pareiels or green dusting sugars.
Variations to Truffles Recipe
Since these are St. Patrick’s edition of oreo truffles, try substituting the Mint Oreos for the regular to make mint truffles!
You can also use green candy melts in place of the white and add a 1/2 tsp of peppermint extract to the chocolate as you melt it for an even more minty flavor!
Try adding pop sticks to the truffles to make them oreo truffle pops! dip the stick in the melted chocolate and insert it into the truffle, let sit for 10 minutes or so and then completely dip the pops in to coat the truffles.

How to Make Oreo Truffles
For this oreo truffle recipe, we first have to crush oreos. You can accomplish this by using a food processor or multi-use blender, such as a Blentec, and pulse the cookies until they become fine crumbs or you can do it the non-electronic way and use a Ziploc bag and a rolling pin or meat mallet.
Next, in a mixing bowl, you will add the oreo crumbs and the cream cheese and mix well until all incorporated.
Now, we are going to line a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper and then using a 1-inch cookie dough scoop, scoop out and form 1-inch balls and place the oreo balls on the baking sheet.
We are now going to put these into the fridge or freezer to chill. This makes coating them with the chocolate so much easier. As those treats chill, we can start melting our chocolate. I do this in the microwave in small increments, mixing well in between!
Remove the baking sheet from the refrigerator and dip the balls into the melted chocolate. Use a fork to scoop them out and tap off the excess chocolate and then place them back on the baking sheet.
Add any sprinkles and let them rest until the chocolate sets. You can do this on the counter or pop them back in the fridge.
Truffle Storage: Store the St. Patrick’s Day OREO Truffle Recipe stores best in an airtight container in your refrigerator for up to a week (if they last that long!)
You can also freeze the OREO truffle balls and to defrost, let them thaw in the refrigerator for about 24 hours.
Oreo Truffle Recipe – St. Pat’s Edition
St. Patricks’ Day Oreo Truffle Recipe
- 36 OREO cookies
- 8 ounces cream cheese , softened
- 12 ounces White Chocolate melting wafers , chopped
- St Patrick’s Day sprinkles
Add cookies to a food processor, or a plastic ziplock bag to crush into fine crumbs.36 OREO cookies
Mix cookie crumbs and cream cheese together until they are completely mixed.8 ounces cream cheese
Use a 1 inch cookie scoop to form cookie mixture into 1 inch balls, then set on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
Refrigerate or freeze for 20 minutes.
Place chopped chocolate into a microwave safe bowl and heat for 30 second intervals, stirring between each heating session, until the chocolate is completely melted.12 ounces White Chocolate melting wafers
Remove the cookie balls from the refrigerator or freezer, and dip them into the chocolate, coating the entire ball. Set on a parchment lined baking sheet and top with sprinkles.St Patrick’s Day sprinkles
Allow the chocolate coating to set (may put back in refrigerator) and then serve on your favorite platter.
- You can use a food processor or blender to crush the OREO cookies. If using a bag and roller, be sure to crush finely.
- A cookie scoop is optional but it makes it so much easier to get a uniformly sized ball.
- Easily convert these truffles into pops by dipping the end of a pop stick into the white chocolate and inserting it into the cookie ball and then dipping the complete ball into the white chocolate to coat.
- Refrigerate these in an air-tight container for up to a week.
